13th-19th July 2009
There were two friendlies this week against westcountry opposition. Wednesday saw Plymouth held to a very entertaining 3-3 draw with good performances across the board from the Gulls, Hatch and Sills in particular were on top form.
Come Saturday and Bristol Rovers were teaching a rather lacklustre Gulls side a thing or two about football. There were promising signs from Torquay but the Pirates prooved too strong for Paul Buckles men, the game finaly ending 4-1 to the travelling side.
Behind the scenes at Torquay, there has been a contract extension offered to manager Paul Buckle, whose current one runs out at the end of the season. He has yet to respond but will hopefully lead by example and get it out of the way before the season starts on August 8th.
Alex Rowe has also explained that Torquay United will be prudent with their budget this year, he has said that last year money was pumped into the club after Christmas to fund the promotion bid and now will be a time of recovery from that spending. After Christmas this year, the league situation will be reviewed and spending will the adjusted then depending on the circumstances.
I think i've covered everything from the week. If not I'll do it next week, please e-mail me if there is any news you think I've overlooked which is actually interesting.
Thank you Gulls fans.
