Should've Been Won By Half Time

Should've Been Won By Half Time

Manager Chris Hargreaves has said he feels Torquay should've been out of sight in the game against Dartford, but as it was we needed to survive a second half penalty in order to have come out with anything to show for our efforts.

We remain unbeaten following the opening day defeat to Gateshead but the last two games have been score less affairs despite the manager feeling we should've had a lot more to show from them at full time.

Speaking to the Torquay Herald following the whistle, the gaffer explained.

'We got our stroke of luck then (penalty), and now we've got to make the most of it against Aldershot on Monday. It's a game we should have put out of sight when we were on top in the first half. We had a ten minute spell when we should have blown them away, but the longer the game went on, it could have gone the other way.'

Hargreaves goes on to say that it shows the importance of making sure you score when you are on top in games because it gives you something to hold on, whereas when you don't, the opposition is always going to have a moment in a game where a failure to have scored earlier means not only do you potentially drop two points, but you drop all three, and had their spot kick not cannoned off the bar and gone over the game would've been theirs.

With Toby Ajala landing funny but carrying on in an effort to shake it, Hargreaves admitted we lost something when he went off the pitch, but it doesn't appear there will be any long term fall out to the knock he took and there are obviously the positives of those debutants who looked bright and will be better for having started moving forward.
