Manager Chris Hargreaves has said that Torquay must hit the ground running next season, and he's already working hard to make sure that happens.
With the old season only a week gone really, Hargreaves and the club are still taking stock of the implications of relegation, and plans that can be put in place to help us hopefully bounce back at the first time of asking, and the gaffer says there is a real sense of hope and excitement within the walls of the club because they know this is an opportunity to now strip everything back and really build the foundations we want for future success.
Speaking to the Official Site Hargreaves explained.
'I am speaking to lots of players, lots of managers and lots of agents. This is an exciting time for the club and for me as the manager. It's time for rebuilding and whenever you start something new and have a vision for the future, it should be exciting. It's helped by the fact I have the support of a great chairwoman in Thea Bristow, and the Board of Directors Here.'
The gaffer goes on to say that he actually started planning for the new season as he was driving away from Mansfield and our relegation was confirmed, in terms of his desired new starting XI, the way he wants us to play and potential targets for over the summer and character figures very highly for him in new players, because he wants them to be the right fit for the club and he wants players he can develop and move forward with as we climb the league ladder again and attempt to be successful.
'I cannot afford to waste money, I have a budget and I have to use it wisely, which is why I have to get players that want to be here. I obviously want a side that will hit the ground running from the first game of the new season. It's not going to be easy but I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of people I've already spoken to, and that's just in the first week of the close season.'
Hargreaves goes on to say that he's no where near finished having the conversations he wants to have with people yet and he'll be working on those over the coming weeks so hopefully he can have the players he wants in right from the get go of pre season so the team spirit, tactics and familiarity can be worked on as soon as possible to give us the best shot we can have.
