Bodin To Miss Most Of Next Season

Bodin To Miss Most Of Next Season

Torquay have announced that Billy Bodin has unfortunately suffered a serious injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and he will now be out for up to nine months.

It's obviously a blow to the club and the player himself, and the issue is further complicated by the fact that Bodin's current contract expires at the end of June, however the obvious priority is to ensure he has the best treatment available to enable a recovery more in the six odd month mark, rather than the maximum nine.

Speaking to the Official Site as the announcement was made, manager Chris Hargreaves explained.

'For such a bright young talent, Billy might be out for quite some time. He's injured his cruciate ligament, which means he could be out for nine months. We have a duty of care to get him fit. We also have to think about the contract situation and discuss with Billy, and his dad Paul, who I know really well.'

Hargreaves says that those chats can wait for the moment though as the immediate issue is getting him right for recovery, and organising the operation he will need so he can heal and then start his rehabilitation.

The one positive that Hargreaves has given Billy is that back in his day an injury like this could be career ending, but they happen quite a lot in football now and although it does mean a lengthy spell out and then a lot of work to get fit again, the vast majority of players return well.

'I'm sure that will be the case because he's a strong young lad. Our concern now is to get him fit but we will have a discussion about wages and contracts.'
