Young midfielder Jak McCourt played his first full game as a professional footballer against Mansfield last weekend, and manager Alan Knill couldn't have been more delighted with his young charge.
Speaking to the Official Site Knill said that he showed that he had all the determination, desire and quality necessary to forge a good career in the game.
The youngster joined us last week on loan from Leicester City and put in a very solid performance in his first game for us, with the manager pointing out that the only possible negative was the yellow card he picked up - but that in some ways he felt that was a harsh decision from the referee anyway.
Describing the player as 'good' who can pass a ball and provided a competitive edge, he said it would be unfair of him to pick out individuals from the Mansfield game, but in the case of McCourt making his debut, he felt he deserved it.
'His booking came from good aggression and I thought it was a great tackle. He sees the ball and he wants to win it, and you could see him at the end as the one trying to drive us up the pitch.'
Speaking a bit more generally about all of our loanees at the moment, Knill added that for youngsters, they really do bring something different to the team and it's a bonus for us.
Not quite a loan move, but after a few weeks of training and restoring his fitness levels quietly, French midfielder Damien Mozika has signed a short term deal with Torquay.
Alan Knill knows him as they spent time together at both Bury and Scunthorpe, so the test now is to see how he fits in at the club and whether he can make an impact.
The short term deal could well be extended, but the club will make that decision based on his fitness and form in the coming months.
The manager explained that he's been with us for two months for training and rehabilitation after suffering a hamstring injury, and whilst he's been tested and monitored, the proof of the pudding is in playing.
There's a chance he could be on the bench for the game against Burton tomorrow.
