Seven Minutes Cost Us - Knill

Seven Minutes Cost Us - Knill

Manager Alan Knill has said he thought Torquay were excellent in our first trip to Newport for 26 years, but ultimately a seven minute spell cost us.

Newport scored two goals inside eight minutes midway through the first half and even though debutant Ade Azeez pulled one back with just over 30 minutes left to play in the game, the damage had been done and Torquay couldn't quite get the extra goal to return parity in the scoreline.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Alan Knill admitted he was both proud and disappointed following the 90 minutes.

'I thought we were excellent apart from a seven minute period in the game when we conceded two goals. If we concede only one, I think we would have won the game.'

With Torquay losing Aaron Downes to what could be a serious knee injury ahead of the game, it was dumb luck really that their opener came from a freekick that Knill believes Downes would've eaten for breakfast, but with him missing we failed to deal with it and went behind. As for the second we just weren't sharp enough to deal with the ball over the top and the pull back and the frustration is the manager says that despite that he felt confident that we would still go on and win the game, but despite getting one back, we couldn't get that all important leveller.

So it's a case of positives from negatives again as a draw at least wouldn't have been an unfair reflection given our performance and the chances we created.

Onto the York match now and hopefully a much needed three points.
