'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Callum Ball Takes The Praise

Speaking to the press following our fantastic 4-2 victory over last season's promotion hopefuls Cheltenham Town, double goalscorer Callum Ball took the managers praise.

Alan Knill pointed to the fact that Ball scored a brace was proof of why we loaned him in from Derby County because that's exactly what he's capable of doing for us, and all week on the training pitch they had been working on ways to get him into the box and into a goalscoring position so he could do what he was fantastic at, which is putting the ball into the back of the net, and thankfully against Cheltenham what was worked on on the training pitch, came to fruition throughout the 90 minutes.

Knill also admitted that given how the game was, he said at halftime to their coaching staff that it was so open it could've already been four all at the break as it was a fantastically open game of football.

'I've got to say I'm absolutely delighted with the players because they worked so hard for these three points and we said in the changing room 'that's how hard you have to work every week if you want to be successful'.'

Knill says that as a manager he loved that game as it was a great performance by everybody, and as well as being chuffed that Ball got his brace, he was delighted to see Karl Hawley and Jordan Chappell get on the scoresheet as well, especially as Chappell provided the assist for Ball to open the scoring.

Pleasingly for Knill he goes on to say that after Torquay's struggle to score more than twice in a game so far this season, he feels that all the work that has been put in during training is the reason for today's success and he doesn't believe that it was a coincidence because it's something that has been talked about numerous times.

Two wins from eight isn't great, but it's getting better and it was the perfect way to respond to the Fleetwood and Rochdale losses.
