Knill Takes Blame For Fleetwood Loss
Alan Knill has said that he takes full responsibility for our loss to Fleetwood last weekend, and he admits it's been our lowest point of the season so far.
Despite the fine performance of Martin Rice between the sticks, Torquay found themselves two nil down before the half time break and the second half didn't go much better for us as Fleetwood added another two goals to their tally, before Elliot Benyon grabbed an 89th minute consolation goal.
Speaking to the Official Site Alan Knill was forced to admit that we lost to the better team on the day and even though he expects them to be up there come the end of the season, he's desperately disappointed that we didn't really dig in and make a contest of it.
'We were beaten by the better team but we didn't compete with them. As a performance, and group, that wasn't good enough and, as the manager, I take responsibility for that.'
Knill says that we made a terrible start in the match but that's no surprise as we've done that in every away game so far this season and it's taking us way too long to get started and start enacting our own game plan.
Defensively Knill said he couldn't take any solice in the goals they scored, because they were terrible goals for us to concede in his view and he's looking for a very strong response from the players in our next game against Rochdale, as he knows again they will provide a tough test.
